ChatGPT
OpenAI's flagship assistant with built-in Codex and Codex CLI coding agents—the most used globally
Core models
The default fast model in ChatGPT subscriptions—for everyday writing, Q&A, light code, and multimodal chat. Free has limited access; Go raises quotas; Plus and above reach expanded or unlimited levels per the pricing comparison table.
GPT-5.5 with extended thinking, available from Plus onward—for complex reasoning, multi-step analysis, and higher-accuracy tasks; typically consumes more message/thinking quota than Instant.
The top reasoning model for Pro subscriptions—sustained heavy coding, Deep Research, and long-context work. Plus does not include full Pro-level access; requires Pro 5x or Pro 20x.
Pro card lists unlimited GPT-5.3 and file uploads; after GPT-5.5 Instant became default, Plus/Pro paid users can still select GPT-5.3 Instant in settings/model picker (OpenAI announced ~3-month transitional availability—check latest notice).
Built-in AI coding agent on ChatGPT web (pricing Features: Codex)—Free has limited access, Plus expanded usage, Pro maximum tasks; run coding tasks inside chatgpt.com, separate from platform.openai.com API pay-as-you-go billing.
Additional core model names still appear above, with full details on the latest official page.
Plan details
If you do not yet need agent mode, Deep Research, or heavy Codex quotas, Go is usually a more economical paid entry tier than jumping straight to Plus.
The main gaps vs Pro are top model access (GPT-5.5 Pro), Codex task ceilings, Deep Research/agent quotas, and whether uploads and image creation approach near-unlimited levels.
If you frequently hit Plus limits and need sustained GPT-5.5 Pro access but not Pro 20x’s 20x allowance, the 5x tier is usually the better-value Pro entry.
Gets research previews of new features ahead of Plus; “unlimited” claims remain subject to abuse guardrails—extreme automated batch use may still hit throttling.

- GPT-5.5 Instant replaced GPT-5.3 Instant as the default; paid users can still select GPT-5.3 Instant in settings/model picker (OpenAI announced ~3 months availability before retirement—confirm with official updates).
- API usage is not included in ChatGPT subscriptions; models like GPT-5.5 are billed separately per token at openai.com/api/pricing.
- Message/tool caps follow OpenAI Help Center (e.g. GPT-5.5 in ChatGPT): Go/Plus Instant is 160 msgs/3h officially, Go manual Thinking 10 msgs/5h; hitting caps downgrades to Mini until the window resets—confirm in-app notices.
